Are those empty alcohol cans and bottles starting to pile up?
The Parkside Collegiate Institute’s robotics team is here to help.
The members are running a bottle drive throughout the month of December to raise funds for the team and spread awareness about robotics.
Save your bottles and cans, because the drop-off date is Thursday, January 2nd at St. Andrews United Church.
myFM spoke with one of the organizers of the event, Grade 12 Parkside student Zoey Hamm.
Look for the robotics team trailer in the parking lot to drop off your bottles.
Zoey explained a bit about robotics and why they are having this bottle drive.
“While [building the robot] is a part of it, our main focus right now is getting to competitions,” Zoey explains. “If we have a robot, and we can’t go to competitions, there’s nothing we can do with it.”
This is Zoey’s fourth and final year on Parkside’s robotics team. She is a member of the sponsorship team, and helps organize events.
Aside from raising funds, the team also has another goal in mind.
So what does the robotics team do?
Each team of students in robotics has a different job.
There are around 35 students on the robotics team this year, and each member plays an important part.
Competition season starts in late February, so keep an eye out for team 4907: Thunderstamps.
You can find the Thunderstamps’ official website, complete with a full list of all the robots they’ve built and videos of them in action, at https://4907.ca/
