The holiday season isn’t always an easy one—especially for those who have a complicated relationship with food.
And while Christmas is now in rearview and we shift our attention to celebrating the New Year, the food noise doesn’t get any quieter with all the leftovers hanging around.
That was dietitian Emily Szatrowski, who sees many people coming to her for help during this festive season. She says while this time of year is a joyful period for many, it isn’t the case for everyone.
She suggests getting into the right headspace ahead of time.
While you should go into the season with that mindset, she also notes you can plan ahead to give yourself other options to manage your emotions.
Finally, if you do end up “caving in” and having an unhealthy meal, or too much of something, realize it’s just one meal and not the end of the world.
