St. Thomas will now be looking to fill a vacant seat at city hall with the announcement this morning that Councillor Tara McCaulley would be stepping down.
Since joining council in 2022, Councillor McCaulley has been a strong advocate for residents, supporting local initiatives and fostering connections that enhance the quality of life in our city.
Her work also extended across various committees, including the Board of Management Downtown Development Board, the Community Improvement Program Evaluation Committee, the Health Recruitment Partnership, the Board of Management Valleyview Home, the Police Services Board, and the St. Thomas Public Library Board, reflecting her commitment to the community’s growth, safety, and well-being.
Before joining council, McCaulley held key roles within the city, including Manager of the Elgin-St. Thomas Small Business Enterprise Centre and Manager of Business Development & Entrepreneurship. Her efforts helped support local businesses and drive economic growth.
In 2022, Councillor McCaulley stepped down from her city role to run for city council, bringing a wealth of experience and dedication to public service. Since then, in her new role as Loans Manager for the Elgin Business Resource Centre, she continues to support businesses in achieving their financial goals, and contributing to the region’s economic vitality.
Mayor Joe Preston praised her contributions, stating, “Councillor McCaulley has been a pillar of service to St. Thomas.” Adding “While we will miss her contributions on council, her legacy will continue to inspire and impact St. Thomas for years to come.”
City officials will now work towards filling her position in accordance with Municipal Act, 2001.
