With measles cases continuing to climb in the Southwestern Public Health region, officials want to make sure residents are as safe as they can be.
During a media call on Tuesday in collaboration with Grand Erie Public Health, Dr. Ninh Tran, Medical Officer of Health at SWPH stressed extra precaution for the youngest population in the area.
The first dose of measles-containing vaccine is given at 12 months of age with a second dose routinely given between four to six years of age.
With that, if you get those shots early, it doesn’t mean you are off the hook once the child turns one.
If you are an adult hearing this and are concerned about your vaccine “wearing off”, that is not how these vaccines work.
Following the media briefing where it was shared that seven new measles exposures were reported in the Southwestern Public Health region, three more have now been reported.
Two exposures took place at the St. Thomas Walk-In Clinic (230 First Ave), the first between 7 and 9 p.m. on February 7, 2025 and the second between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on February 9, 2025.
The third exposure was reported on February 10th at the Aylmer LifeLabs (424 Talbot St W) between 10:30 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.
