St. Thomas City Council has appointed Earl Taylor to fill the vacant seat left by the departure of Councillor Tara McCaulley in late January.
Taylor’s appointment was confirmed during the February 10, 2025, council meeting following a closed session discussion.
In accordance with the Municipal Act, council was required to fill the vacancy within 60 days of its declaration. After reviewing eligible candidates, Taylor was selected to serve for the remainder of the current term.
Taylor, a longtime advocate for community growth and economic development, expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity.
The former Chair of the St. Thomas Downtown Development Board and current Real Estate Broker at Coldwell Banker shared, “I am excited to take on this role and serve the residents of St. Thomas. With a focus on strengthening our community and addressing the priorities of residents, I am eager to contribute to the positive direction of St. Thomas. I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues on council to tackle the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”
Mayor Joe Preston welcomed Taylor to council, emphasizing his expertise and dedication.
“His appointment ensures that we continue to represent our residents effectively and remain focused on our shared goals of building a stronger, more resilient St. Thomas,” said Preston.
Taylor will be officially sworn in during the March 3, 2025, council meeting.
