Residents across Southwestern Ontario are being urged to stay off the ice as rising temperatures have created hazardous conditions on local waterways.
Sergeant Ed Sanchuk with West Region OPP issued a public safety reminder, emphasizing that “no ice is safe ice.”
In this video posted to social media, Sanchuck stood near a partially melted body of water, pointing out hockey nets that were left abandoned on the unstable ice.
He urged residents to resist the temptation to retrieve items, as falling through the ice could quickly become life-threatening.
The OPP’s message is clear: avoid venturing onto frozen ponds, lakes, or rivers, and prioritize safety as the weather shifts.
