Work on First Avenue between Wellington Street and Steele Street in St. Thomas is set to start on Monday, March 10th, as crews expand underground infrastructure to support the city’s continued growth.
This is Phase 2 of the trunk sewer replacement on First Avenue, with Phase 1, from Talbot Street to Steele Street completed in 2017.
The work includes upgrading the existing sanitary sewer to provide additional sewer capacity to accommodate anticipated flows from the Industrial Development during the interim critical period, prior to the commissioning of the new sewage treatment plant.
To ensure safety, thru traffic will be rerouted, with detours and alternate routes in place.
Despite the construction, all local businesses will remain open. Crews are expected to wrap up by June.
Full details on the project can be found here.
