The St. Thomas Kinsmen are gearing up for one of the community’s longest-standing family traditions this weekend — the annual Kinsmen Easter Egg Hunt at Pinafore Park.
For over 60 years now, the event has drawn hundreds of families to the park on Easter Saturday for what has become a multi-generational experience. From chocolate eggs to bunny photos, it’s a tradition that continues to grow explains Kinsmen Matt Sharpe.
The free event kicks off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 19th, but families are encouraged to plan ahead and arrive early cautions Sharpe.
In total, over 800 pounds of chocolate will be spread across three designated hunt areas based on age, with Sharpe breaking them down for us.
Each zone also features hidden plastic eggs that can be exchanged for a special treat explains Sharpe.
Alongside the egg hunt, families can enjoy free hot dogs and drinks, a DJ will be on-site to keep the energy high, and the Easter Bunnies will be available for photos.
Organizing this event takes a dedicated group of about 16 Kinsmen, who arrive early Saturday hide the special eggs and spread the chocolate just before start time.
But as Sharpe adds, an event this big wouldn’t be possible without some community support.
