Two days after a massive blaze in the former Weatherhead Company of Canada plant, St. Thomas Police have charged two individuals with arson.
One is a 16-year-old youth and the other, 40-year-old Daniel Armstrong of St. Thomas, was additionally charged with failing to comply with a probation order.
He has been remanded into custody.
The youth was released on an undertaking and will appear in court at a future date.
The inferno was originally reported as suspicious and then deemed an act of arson by police.
Police advise the swift identification and arrest of the accused individuals was made possible due to the efforts of investigators and community support.
Firefighters arrived on the scene just after 4 p.m. Monday and were greeted by a wall of flame and acrid black smoke. They were still on the scene for much of Tuesday.
