With the federal election right around the corner, there is no doubt political tensions have been running high in a lot of communities – and a local business has felt the impacts through no fault of its own.
Railway City Brewing Co. was forced to put out a statement after a former partner, identified as Matt Janes, was filmed giving two middle fingers to an online content creator while at a rally for Liberal Leader Mark Carney on Saturday in Brantford.
Following the interaction, the brewery’s social media pages were targeted which prompted the response. Chief Executive Dave Clarke confirmed Janes hasn’t been associated with the company since 2022 and that his personal actions and openings are his alone and not representative of the views or values of the team.
Clarke also said in his statement Railway City Brewing Co. remains an independent, community-focused brewery committed to respect, inclusion and the simple joy of sharing a fresh pint with friends.
The photo has gone viral and is being labeled the “Brantford Boomer”.
Janes said in a statement to the London Free Press, Carney supporters were met with “vulgar F*** Carney” chants and were harassed and had obscenities shouted at them.
