A beloved St. Thomas tradition springs back to life this weekend as the Horton Farmers’ Market opens its regular season on Saturday, May 10th- promising a bustling blend of fresh produce, local vendors, and more.
After wrapping its third successful year of Winter at Horton, Sarah Noble, Manager of Marketing and Communications at the St. Thomas Economic Development Corporation says the off-season market has helped bridge the gap between the colder months and the spring harvest.
The main market season will bring expanded offerings and a full outdoor experience under the historic pavilions, as hours return to 8 a.m. to noon.
The prepared food options are also growing this year, with new additions joining the lineup notes Noble.
As always, more than 50% of vendors are farm-based, a key requirement to keep the Horton Market officially recognized as a “true farmers’ market.”
Throughout the season, shoppers can also expect some weekly themes, family-friendly activities, and pop-up performances. This includes a special guest this Saturday shares Noble.
A highlight on the upcoming calendar is Pollinator Week on June 21, featuring a “Goosechase” scavenger hunt and educational events about pollination and local beekeeping. It’s also part of the market’s celebration of the city’s official status as a Bee City.
Whether you’re after farm-fresh produce, handmade pastries, or just a sunny spot to sip your morning coffee, Noble says the market has something for everyone.
The Horton Farmers’ Market runs every Saturday through November 1st, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 10 Manitoba Street in St. Thomas.
