Canada’s emergency alert system will be sending a test alert across Ontario today.
It’s part of a series of national tests by Alert Ready to check performance and reliability of the system in life-threatening situations.
Ontario cellphone users, people watching television, and those listening to the radio can expect to see and hear the alert at 12:55 p.m.
The notification will clearly state that it is a test and that no action is required from the public.
Testing of the Alert Ready system provides the opportunity to increase public awareness about the system and spark emergency preparedness conversations, so that Canadians can be ready and prepared in the event of an actual emergency.
A full schedule of test alerts can be found here.
