Southwestern Public Health held a media briefing Thursday afternoon to update the community on the measles outbreak across the region.
The health unit cautions, that the number of cases reported to SWPH is an underestimate of the true number of measles cases within the region.
Not everyone with measles may seek testing or medical care.
Medical officer of Health, Dr. Ninh Tran noted there have now been in excess of 500 cases since last October.
The health unit advises just over 7 per cent of cases required hospitalization.
Just under 77 per cent of cases involve individuals 18 years of age or younger.
Dr. Tran stressed it will take a collective effort to deal with the measles outbreak.
A total of 87 per cent of cases involve individuals who are not immunized.
Dr. Tran passed along advice for those who are choosing to not get vaccinated.
