Just in time for the long weekend, beachgoers in Port Stanley will notice a new feature aimed at making the shoreline more accessible to all.
Municipal staff in Central Elgin have completed the installation of a brand-new Mobility Mat at Little Beach. The specialized mat provides a stable, non-slip pathway over the sand, making it easier for individuals using wheelchairs, walkers, or strollers to access the water’s edge.
The project was made possible through funding from the Province of Ontario’s Inclusive Community Grants program, secured by the Port Stanley Village Association.
The Municipality of Central Elgin also contributed funds for the concrete pad that connects the nearby parking area to the mat—offering a seamless and accessible transition onto the beach.
Officials remind beachgoers to keep towels and personal items off the mat to ensure it remains clear and accessible for everyone. Municipal staff will maintain the mat throughout the summer season to keep it in safe, working condition.
