Last week’s provincial budget proposed $1 billion in funding to expand and renovate the Ontario Police College near Aylmer and construct a new OPP academy in Orillia.
It builds on the announcement last October at the OPC by Solicitor General Michael Kerzner of increasing the enrollment capacity for Ontario’s Basic Constable Training program by up to 80 additional recruits per year starting this year.
The expanded enrolment will bring the total number of officers trained per year to 2,080.
Kerzner stressed at the time, it’s about putting more police constables on the ground to assist small, medium and First Nations communities.
