Three years ago, she was a stay-at-home mom in Mexico City.
Today Lourdes Cuevas and Tomas Acha are the proud franchise operators of Budget Blinds in the St. Thomas, London, Woodstock and Strathroy region.
And now, life in her new adopted home is “pretty amazing, ” enthuses Cuevas.
“It’s an adventure. So, it has been a really good move on our part to come to Canada, especially for our kids.”
Cuevas asserts, “I love my job. You meet a lot of people on a daily basis and make friends. You help them out with their window-covering needs.”

“We have everything,” explains Cuevas. “Drapes, shutters, your normal forward blinds, roller shades, cellulars. We have everything. Zebra shades that are very popular right now.”
“We work with good, better, best. That’s our model. So perhaps you don’t want something that fancy or something or you have a budget and then we can show you different price ranges, different vendors. We work with three amazing Canadian vendors, which is really nice.

She points out, “Our business model is to bring the store to the customers.”
Cuevas continues, “Because sometimes when you are in a showroom, you see the fabrics with a different light, with a fluorescent light. And when you put them next to your window at your home with your surroundings, it changes the way that you look at the sample book and when you see it in the window, it’s different.
“Especially light-filtering fabrics are tricky because they will change colors when you put it next to the window, depending on the amount of light that is coming in.
“So I think that’s important. It’s important for the customer for us to come to them so they can see the fabrics in their own settings.”
