Photo Rights: Defeat Duchenne Canada
St. Thomas residents will have a unique opportunity to witness a historic journey next month, as John Davidson embarks on a 30-kilometre walk from our famous Jumbo the Elephant Monument to Victoria Park in London.
This event commemorates the 30th anniversary of Jesse’s Journey, now known as Defeat Duchenne Canada, and honours the legacy of Davidson’s son, Jesse, who battled Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
In 1995, Davidson began a remarkable trek across Ontario, pushing Jesse in his wheelchair to raise awareness and funds for Duchenne research. Their journey captured national attention and laid the foundation for Canada’s only charity dedicated solely to funding research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
The upcoming walk on Tuesday, June 10th, retraces the initial steps of that original journey, starting around 8- 8:30 a.m. from the iconic Jumbo statue.
Community members are invited to cheer Davidson on along the route and support the cause at a number of “Donation Stations.”
The event is both a tribute to past efforts and a rallying point for continued support in the fight against Duchenne.
