The London International Airport is set to host a unique community event on Saturday, May 31, as it welcomes the first-ever Ride the Runway for Mental Health- aimed at raising awareness and support for those struggling with mental health challenges.
The initiative is presented by For the Love of Kate I Ride, in partnership with CMHA Thames Valley Addiction & Mental Health Services, and honours the memory of Kate Harris, who died by suicide in 2016 at the age of 32.
Founded by her father and stepmother, Doug and Brenda Harris, the event is a continuation of their mission to give Kate’s story lasting meaning while fostering open conversations about mental health.
“My hope is that by sharing Kate’s story, others will live and prosper,” said Doug Harris. “This event is about connection, awareness, and action — all in support of those who may be silently struggling.”
Funds raised from Ride the Runway will benefit crisis services at CMHA Thames Valley, which provides supports to individuals living in London and Elgin, Middlesex, Oxford, and South Huron.
Participants of all ages are invited to walk, ride, run—or even hop or skip—down a dedicated taxiway alongside a runway, offering a rare behind-the-scenes airport experience as planes will be landing and taking off just a short distance away.
Highlights include a classic car show, aircraft exhibits from the Jet Aircraft Museum, and appearances by the London Fire Department and St. John Ambulance.
Food trucks, music, door prizes, and a welcoming atmosphere round out the day.
Advance registration is encouraged.
