St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital (STEGH) will begin a significant renovation of its East Parking Lot on Monday, June 2nd, aiming to enhance accessibility, traffic flow, and overall safety for patients, staff, and visitors.
The project will roll out in three phases and is scheduled for completion by the end of August. Improvements include upgraded sidewalks and accessible parking, reconfigured lot orientation to create more spaces, and better lighting throughout the area.
“We are thrilled to embark on this important upgrade,” said Dan Neaves, STEGH’s Director of Facilities Management. “While there may be some temporary inconvenience, the long-term benefits of this project will be felt by everyone who uses the lot.”
As part of the first phase, the entrance off Wood Street will be closed, and at least 100 parking spots will be temporarily unavailable. Hospital officials encourage visitors to use the South Lot (P2) or access the East Lot from Elm Street.
To help ease parking demand, nearly 200 staff will be parking offsite. Patients and visitors are advised to allow extra time for parking or arrange drop-offs when possible.
STEGH says emergency access and hospital operations will remain uninterrupted throughout the project, and efforts are being made to minimize traffic disruptions during peak hours.
Further updates on the project will be shared via STEGH’s website and social media.
