The number of new measles cases reported in the past week is down significantly from earlier this month.
Southwestern Public Health released a measles outbreak report Thursday that indicated 26 new cases have been recorded since May 22, down from 63 the previous week.
That brings the total count since last October to 717.
Just over 70 per cent of cases are in those 18 years of age or younger, with 6.6 per cent of cases requiring hospitalization.
Meantime, nearly 70 per cent of Canadians support mandatory childhood vaccinations.
That’s according to a new Angus Reid poll.
The survey follows a surge in measles cases – led by over 700 cases in the Southwestern Public Health region – mostly among unvaccinated children.
Support was highest in Ontario and Quebec, while Alberta showed the lowest numbers — though still higher than last year.
