A partnership with Doug Tarry Homes and the Elgin Children’s Foundation is bringing something sweet to the area on Saturday.
LemonAID Day is back for a second year, where a sea of yellow will be seen across St. Thomas and Elgin County, as families, businesses, and community groups set up lemonade stands to raise money to send local kids to camp- opportunities they might not otherwise have.
“It’s more than just selling lemonade,” said Myles Proulx, Volunteer and Community Engagement Advocate with Family & Children’s Services of St. Thomas and Elgin County, who helped launch the initiative locally after hearing about it from the Niagara Children’s Aid Foundation.
This time around, roughly 40 stands are expected compared to the 25 last year, with a hope of beating out 2024’s fundraising total of $13,000.
But as Proulx stressed, something even more impressive than the dollar amount raised in the inaugural year, was the community comradery it brought about.
Looking ahead to this Saturday, Proulx is calling on the community to help make the day successful.
A number of local schools will be taking part this week leading up to LemonAID Day- all in support of this amazing cause.
The St. Thomas Police Service will also be hosting a lemonade stand on Friday at their downtown office on Talbot Street for those who can’t make it out on Saturday.
As we prepare for another exciting day in the community, Proulx reminds us why a day like this is so important.
“It’s about looking outside ourselves and doing something that really matters,” Proulx added. “And in this day and age, that feels more important than ever.”
