The Municipality of Central Elgin is seeking community input as it develops a new licensing program for short-term rental accommodations.
The program will apply to properties rented for 28 days or less—including listings on platforms like Airbnb and VRBO—as well as bed-and-breakfast-style accommodations.
Its goal is to ensure these rentals meet safety standards and comply with all municipal by-laws, including the Building Code and Fire Code.
Officials say the licensing system will help protect both renters and the broader community by promoting responsible property management and safe living conditions.
Residents are encouraged to share their thoughts through an online survey now available at letstalkcentralelgin.ca
A community open house will also be held in the near future to gather additional feedback, with the draft By-law being presented to Council on June 23rd.
The two-week comment period will close on Tuesday, June 17th.
