The St. Thomas Stars have landed a hometown standout with the signing of forward George Matsos.
Born and raised in St. Thomas, Matsos says he’s excited to suit up for the Junior B team he grew up watching.
Matsos brings strong credentials to the roster, notching 13 goals and 16 assists in 30 games last season with the Elgin Middlesex Canucks—just shy of a point per game.
The 17-year-old was also selected 264th overall by the Windsor Spitfires in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection.
His hockey pedigree runs deep as George is the son of former Stars head coach Dave Matsos, now behind the bench with the OHL’s Sarnia Sting. When asked how that contributes to his game, the young centre had this to say.
Describing himself as a pass-first playmaker, Matsos says he models his game after Toronto Maple Leafs star Mitch Marner and is eager to help elevate the team this season.
The St. Thomas Stars are entering a bold new chapter as the Junior B hockey club also unveiled a revamped coaching staff. This includes former NHLer and Stanley Cup champion Jason Williams who takes over as head coach, filling the void left by Dave Matsos. More on that announcement can be found here.
