The St. Thomas Stars have added strength to their blue line with the signing of left-handed defenseman Luke Wachowiak.
The London, Ontario native joins the Stars following a standout year with the Elgin Middlesex Canucks, where he tallied 5 goals and 20 assists in just 28 games.
His strong play was vital in helping the Canucks reach the championship finals this past season.
“I’m a two-way defenseman who likes to push for offense,” Wachowiak explained. In terms of why he decided to join the Stars- there were a couple of contributing factors.
Wachowiak was drafted 219th overall in the 11th round of the 2024 OHL Priority Selection by the Niagara IceDogs. He says he models his game after NHL veteran Drew Doughty, bringing a smart, steady presence to both ends of the ice.
The St. Thomas Stars are entering a bold new chapter as the Junior B hockey club also unveiled a revamped coaching staff. This includes former NHLer and Stanley Cup champion Jason Williams who takes over as head coach, filling the void left by Dave Matsos, who advanced to the OHL’s Sarnia Sting. More on that announcement can be found here.
