Paradise Village is anything but ordinary—at least not in the hilarious and heartwarming world of Norm Foster’s Doris and Ivy in the Home, now playing at Port Stanley Festival Theatre through July 12th.
The play, directed by Artistic Director Liz Gilroy, follows two unlikely friends: Doris, a brash retired prison guard and Ivy, a refined former champion skier, as they navigate life—and a little romance—in a Canmore, Alberta retirement home.
Some familiar faces return to Port Stanley for this production notes Gilroy, including fan favourite Debbie Collins as Doris.
Audiences can expect a single-set production that captures the cozy charm of a retirement home courtyard, complete with changing skies, twinkle lights, and a stunning mountain backdrop that subtly shifts throughout.
While the play is set in a senior residence, the themes of love, regret, and second chances are universally relatable-regardless of age. Gilroy says even the younger audience members are connecting with the message.
Adding that you may also leave the theatre with a renewed appreciation.
Reminder- Evening shows now start at 7:30 p.m., and the theater’s patio bar is open pre-show, making it an ideal stop this summer in Port Stanley.
