A St. Thomas organization with a dedication to digital literacy and sustainability is celebrating new support as its impact reaches further across Southwestern Ontario.
The STEAM Education Centre has received a $20,000 grant from United Way Oxford to expand its reBUILDit Computer Donation Program into Oxford County, allowing staff to collect and refurbish up to 100 devices.
While the new partnership focuses on Oxford, the success of the initiative is rooted right here in our community.
Since launching in St. Thomas, the reBUILDit program has donated more than 1,700 refurbished computers to individuals in need, all while diverting thousands of pounds of e-waste from landfills. The devices help students, newcomers, and people facing poverty access online education, job training, and community resources.
STEAM Education held its first Oxford-based computer donation event on June 24th at the United Way Oxford office in Woodstock.
