The community of St. Thomas-Elgin is wrapping its arms around a local family with a sea of purple, honouring the life of 14-year-old Cameron De Athe, who passed away due to epilepsy over the weekend.
A beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, Cameron was known for his infectious smile, kind spirit, and the remarkable way he made others feel seen and loved.
To honour Cameron’s life and raise awareness for epilepsy, residents are being encouraged to hang purple balloons and lights outside their homes and businesses.
Purple is the official colour of epilepsy awareness, and organizers say this simple gesture is a way to show support not only for Cam’s family but for all those affected by the condition.
A fundraising effort has also been launched to support Cameron’s family as they navigate this heartbreaking loss. Donations will help with funeral expenses and allow the family time to grieve.
Cameron attended Mitchell Hepburn Public School and graduated grade 8 just last week.
