Sunday’s arson incident in the city’s core is a blow to the business community and a financial burden to the Talbot Street building owner.
In a media statement, Grayden Laing, chair of the Downtown Development Board, adds thanks to the St. Thomas Fire Department and city police, there were no injuries or loss of life.
Aiding in the arrest of Joseph Penfound, were the CCTV surveillance cameras located along Talbot Street, financially supported by the DDB.
Moving forward, added Laing, the DDB will continue to support the CCTV network.
“We hope this will deter similar events in the future by demonstrating that individuals will be held accountable for actions that harm our community,” advised Laing.
He added, “The DDB is here to assist our business and property owners to overcome any future challenges that this event may have caused.”
