Over the Canada Day week-long traffic safety campaign, Elgin OPP laid 242 charges.
The campaign ran from June 27 until July 2 and highlighted the importance of seatbelts, helmets and lifejackets.
Of the charges, 144 were for speeding, the leading cause of injuries and death in traffic collisions.
And 24 were seatbelt violations. Police remind motorists to ensure everyone in the vehicle is bucked up. This includes making sure children and toddlers are properly secured in a car or booster seat appropriate to their age, height and weight.
Insp. Tyler Holmes, Elgin OPP Detachment Commander urges motorists and boaters “to be aware of the risks associated with their driving or boating behaviour. Together we can make a significant impact in reducing traffic-related incidents.”
