With summer now in full swing, the Ignite Youth Centre is launching a new program designed to help students entering high school feel more confident, connected, and ready to take on the school year.
Running every Wednesday from July 16 to August 27th, “Ready, Set, High School” will feature eight themed group workshops, one-on-one coaching, and a special back-to-school celebration on September 17th.
Sessions run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the centre-745 Talbot Street- and the program is free.
Youth Program Facilitator, Ethan Georgijev says the idea came to life when the Thames Valley District School Board offered Ignite leftover funding to run a summer initiative.
The program is open to both incoming Grade 9 students and current high schoolers who may be struggling with the adjustment.
There’s also no pressure to attend every week, as students can pick the sessions that match their needs notes Georgijev.
In addition to the weekly workshops, Ignite offers flexible weekday one-on-one meetings with youth support staff, for those who prefer smaller settings.
Georgijev says one of the strengths of the program is how customizable it is. “We’re not just handing out information—we’re listening and adapting each week to what participants need. It’s a space where teens can feel seen and heard.”
While funded through the Thames Valley District School Board, the program is open to all youth in the community—including those attending Catholic or private schools.
Registration is available at igniteyouthcentre.eventbrite.ca.
