An Elgin OPP officer suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle they had pulled over.
Just before 11 a.m. the officer spotted an suspicious vehicle on Hwy. 3 and initiated a traffic stop on the Hwy. 3 bypass in St. Thomas.
While investigating, the motorist fled the scene, hitting the officer.
The driver of the suspect vehicle was located by Elgin OPP and taken into custody.
As a result, 40-year-old Darren Hamden of London, has been charged with:
- Flight from peace officer
- Resist peace officer
- Assault with intent to resist arrest
- Personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice (Identity fraud)
- Two counts of failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court
The accused was held for bail.
Hwy. 3 was closed between Centennial Road and Wellington Road until late afternoon.
