Elgin County OPP were out in full force during Operation Safe Driver Week, a targeted enforcement campaign focused on promoting safer interactions between commercial and non-commercial drivers.
Running from July 13 to 19, the initiative—led by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance—saw officers monitoring for violations such as improper lane changes, speeding, distracted driving, and following too closely.
Elgin OPP laid 15 charges specifically against Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) drivers, which included speeding, distracted driving, and failure to wear seatbelts.
Across Elgin and Chatham-Kent highways, a total of 161 provincial offence charges were issued throughout the campaign.
The OPP is reminding all drivers to remain alert, share the road safely, and make responsible choices behind the wheel.
