Golfers will be hitting the links for a good cause next month as the St. Thomas Elgin Food Bank gets set for a charity tournament, taking place Saturday, August 23rd at The Bluffs Golf Club in Port Stanley.
Karen McDade, Manager of Public Relations and Administration for the food bank, says the idea was brought forward by a trio of community members who approached her about organizing the event.
The 12-hole shotgun tournament will tee off at 8:30 a.m. with registration opening at 8. The cost is $100 per player, which includes a meal and a $50 charitable tax receipt. Teams of four are encouraged, though individuals can also register and be grouped accordingly.
In addition to the tournament, the event will include a putting contest, 50/50 draw, and prize table. McDade explains that they’re still seeking sponsors to make the fundraiser a success.
And while McDade admits she’s not a golfer herself, she’ll be on site helping with registration and prizes.
Proceeds from the day will support the food bank’s general operations and ongoing programs, including their Summer Top-Up initiative.
Registration and sponsorship info is available through the St. Thomas Elgin Food Bank. Payments can be made via e-transfer, cheque or in person.
