It’s Farmers’ Market Week in Ontario—and there’s no better time to explore the growing list of local markets across St. Thomas and Elgin County.
Running August 3rd to 10th, the annual celebration highlights the value of fresh, local food and the community connections built at farmers’ markets across the province.
With the summer growing season at its peak, vendors are now bursting with fresh produce, meats, cheeses, baked goods, and handmade local products, available throughout a number of communities.
Options include….
- The Horton Farmers’ Market in St. Thomas is open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon until November 1st at 10 Manitoba Street.
- The Old Imperial Farmers’ Market in Aylmer is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.- year-round at 516 John Street, North.
- The Dutton Farmers Market runs each Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through October 5th at 1 Scotland Street.
This is in addition to a number of family-owned operations, including Howe Family Farm Market, Debackere Farms, and Briwood Farm Market, among others.
Sarah Noble, Manager of Marketing and Communication at the St. Thomas Economic Development Corporation, discusses the importance of supporting these local growers and producers.
Noble breaks down just how big an impact we can have in our communities.
Farmers’ Markets Ontario Executive Director Catherine Clark adds that “Shoppers are choosing farmers’ markets for nature’s best produce, secure in the knowledge that the food is fresh, safe to eat, and the next best thing to harvesting it themselves.”
Farmers’ Markets Ontario represents more than 180 farmers’ markets across the province, offering consumers direct access to local fresh foods, at the peak of their freshness and flavour.
