Southwestern Public Health is asking for the public’s help in identifying a dog involved in a bite incident that occurred Thursday evening in St. Thomas.
The incident took place around 8 p.m. on August 7th, at the corner of Stanley Street and Wellington Street. According to officials, a passerby was bitten after reaching out to pet the dog, which was on a leash and accompanied by a young boy.
The dog is described as a mostly white Bull Terrier wearing a black harness. The owner is believed to be a boy approximately 12 or 13 years old, around 4’10” tall, with blonde hair and glasses. The pair have reportedly been seen walking in the area before, including on Gladstone Street near the courthouse.
Public health officials stress that the dog and its owner are not in any trouble. They are simply trying to confirm the dog’s vaccination status to determine the risk of rabies exposure.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Southwestern Public Health at 1-800-922-0096 and request the Environmental Health Team.
