A 17-year-old is facing multiple charges after St. Thomas Police were called to the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital early Friday morning.
Police say the youth had been transported to the Emergency Department by EMS for medical care, but upon arrival became violent — pulling the fire alarm, making threats toward hospital staff, and assaulting nurses attempting to provide treatment.
When officers arrived, the youth allegedly assaulted three police officers and continued to threaten staff and first responders. Police and hospital personnel worked together to de-escalate the situation, ensuring the safety of staff, patients, and the public.
The youth is charged with three counts of assaulting a peace officer, two counts of assault, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, and causing a false fire alarm.
A warrant for arrest has been requested.
