Central Elgin announced on Tuesday that Jeff VanRybroeck is the municipality’s new fire chief.
He replaces Ray Ormerod who retired at the end of March.

He has been recognized for his commitment to firefighter safety, modern emergency management practices, and building strong partnerships within the community. His leadership style emphasizes collaboration, innovation and preparedness.
Central Elgin Mayor Andrew Sloan noted, “His experience and leadership will be a great asset as we continue to strengthen fire and emergency services while prioritizing the health and well-being of our community.”
Beginning Sept. 2, VanRybroeck will lead Central Elgin’s Fire Rescue and Beach Rescue teams, including more than 100 volunteer firefighters and 25 lifeguards.
