The community once again came together in a big way for the 7th annual myFM and Elgin Roofing “All Hands on Deck” Food Drive, held Thursday, August 14th across St. Thomas and Elgin County.
The day was spent collecting donations in support of the St. Thomas Elgin Food Bank, the Corner Cupboard in Aylmer and the Port Stanley & Area Community Food Bank, with an aim at stocking the shelves with back-to-school staples.
Between the Real Canadian Superstore in St. Thomas, Miller’s Your Independent Grocer in Aylmer, and Foodland in Port Stanley, the one-day event collected over 6,000 pounds of food along with $3,685 in cash and gift cards. That makes 2025 the strongest in the event’s history, with all three food banks reporting totals above last year.
Karen McDade of the St. Thomas Elgin Food Bank was blown away by the donations, noting 121 banana boxes or four truckloads worth — were filled to the brim. She noted that the items will go a long way toward supporting the food bank.
Adding how great it was to hear from community members throughout the day, who stopped by just to support the cause.
At the Corner Cupboard in Aylmer and Port Stanley & Area Community Food Bank, their teams echoed that gratitude, saying the drive will help ensure shelves are stocked heading into September.
The myFM team is so thankful to the amazing group of sponsors and community partners who showed up to help with the collection, make donations of their own, or simply shared the word.
Because of your support, families across St. Thomas and Elgin County have one less thing to worry about as the school year begins.
