With the new school year just around the corner, Public Safety Canada is reminding families that now is the perfect time to review safety practices with children and refresh household emergency plans.
Parents are encouraged to revisit their family emergency plan, check emergency supplies, and make sure children know what to do if an emergency happens while they are apart. Families should also review their school’s safety procedures and ensure contact information is up to date.
On the roads, drivers are reminded to slow down in school zones and stay alert for children walking, cycling, or boarding school buses. Passing a bus with flashing lights remains illegal on undivided roads.
Other key safety reminders include obeying crossing guards, practicing proper school bus safety, and packing allergy-aware lunches to keep all students safe.
