An 80-year-old has died following a drowning incident at Port Stanley beach on Friday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called around 1:30 p.m. after Good Samaritans pulled an unresponsive individual from Lake Erie and began CPR on shore.
They were then transported to hospital and later pronounced deceased.
Elgin OPP say drownings often have multiple contributing factors, noting safety practices such as learning to swim, wearing a lifejacket, and avoiding alcohol while boating can help prevent tragedies.
Police extended their thanks to those who assisted during the emergency.
