As local students head back to the classroom next week, don’t be surprised by an increased police presence in school zones.
The St. Thomas Police are among area forces putting a focus on back-to-school and educating both motorists and pedestrians on how they should behave.
Here’s Corporate Communications Coordinator, Samantha Wakefield, with a few reminders.
Drivers are urged to watch for flashing 40 km/h school zone signs, be mindful during pick-up and drop-off times, and always stop for school buses when the red lights are flashing.
Wakefield says it’s also important for families with young children starting school to practice their new routines ahead of time.
With the return of busy school zones, Wakefield notes that officers will be present over the first few weeks to ensure compliance, engage with families, and remind drivers to stay patient.
By taking just a few minutes to review these tips, you can help make sure area students have a safe school year.
