Fanshawe College says all campuses will remain open and classes will continue as scheduled despite a strike by full-time support staff that began today (Thursday).
The strike, organized by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU), affects all of Ontario’s 24 public colleges.
While professors, part-time staff, and academic employees are not part of the labour action, the strike impacts key support roles such as IT services, the Office of the Registrar, and student services.
College officials caution that some student services may be disrupted.
Fanshawe has contingency plans in place to minimize the impact on the student experience and ensure academic continuity.
A media release from Fanshawe advises, “Collective bargaining with all of Ontario’s publicly funded colleges is conducted at a province-wide level by the College Employer Council. Fanshawe College officials are not involved in the negotiations and will receive regular updates from the bargaining agent and OPSEU.”
Students and staff can follow updates on the College Employer Council and OPSEU College Support Staff Union websites, while international students are encouraged to review the College’s FAQ page for guidance.
