A St. Thomas resident is out $23,000 after falling victim to a scam involving someone posing as a bank representative.
Police say the victim received a call on September 12th from an individual claiming to be with their bank’s fraud department. They were told their debit and credit cards had been compromised and that a courier would collect them before new cards were issued.
Later that day, an unknown person arrived to collect the cards. No replacements ever came, and the victim later discovered $23,000 had been fraudulently withdrawn from their account.
The St. Thomas Police are continuing to investigate and remind residents to be cautious when receiving unsolicited calls requesting personal or financial information.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers
