Elgin OPP are investigating complaints from neighbours after a resident mowed a swastika into the front lawn of their residence located on Centennial Avenue in Central Elgin.
The Nazi symbol takes up much of the lawn and can be clearly seen from the roadway.
OPP officers were at the home on the east side of Centennial Avenue, north of Elm Street, on Friday.
OPP West Region spokesperson Derek Rogers acknowledged in a statement that police have received complaints about this matter and they are investigating.
The statement noted, “We understand the impact such acts have on members of the community. The OPP does not tolerate or condone acts of hate against a person or property based on race, national or ethnic origin, language, colour, religion or religious dress, sex, age, mental or physical disability, or sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
“Police are responsible for conducting investigations into reported hate/bias motivated incidents, and will do so to the fullest extent of the law.”
myFM reached out to Central Elgin Mayor Andrew Sloan who has declined comment at this time.
