This Saturday, October 4, families in St. Thomas will have the chance to get up close and personal with some fire trucks at the Firehouse Subs Touch-the-Truck event, celebrating First Responders Month.
It’s the first time the St. Thomas Fire Department is joining forces with Firehouse Subs for the interactive, educational event, running from noon to 3 p.m. at the restaurant (1055 Talbot St). Chief Fire Prevention Officer Kim Destun shares that Firehouse Sub is a big supporter of first responders through the Public Safety Foundation of Canada, which has donated over $5 million in lifesaving equipment to emergency services.
The event is part of a nationwide campaign, with more than 80 Firehouse Subs restaurants across Canada hosting similar events. The initiative lets families climb aboard emergency vehicles, meet local heroes, and learn fire safety tips that could save lives.
This year’s Touch-the-Truck events will also help promote National Fire Prevention Week, running October 5-11.
