The Municipality of Central Elgin is asking residents to help shape the future of the former Psychiatric Hospital Lands, a 416-acre property with the potential to become a complete and inclusive new community.
Council recently approved draft policy directions and a land use plan for public feedback, outlining possibilities for housing, parks, commercial areas, transportation, and climate resilience.
Mayor Andrew Sloan says the project is a “unique opportunity to create a complete, connected, and sustainable community” that will serve local needs now and in the future.
To gather input, the municipality is hosting a public open house on Wednesday, October 8, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Central Elgin Municipal Office, 450 Sunset Drive, St. Thomas.
Residents can also share their thoughts online through a survey at letstalkcentralelgin.ca/reimaginehospitallands.
Feedback will help refine the draft plan and guide an Official Plan Amendment to ensure the redevelopment aligns with community priorities and long-term growth.
