In an effort to pressure the Ford government into halting the privatization of the province’s hospitals, a rally will be held Saturday morning in St. Thomas.
The London Health Coalition asserts the expansion of hospital privatization is costing patients thousands of dollars and taking away from local hospitals.
Peter Bergmanis, co-chair of the coalition notes that St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital has operating rooms that sit idle because they don’t have the funds to staff them for longer periods of time.
In a media release, he noted, “The hardship and suffering caused by the Ford government’s privatization is exactly what public Medicare was designed to stop. We have held press conferences with the patients who have been extra-billed illegally, written letters, asked for meetings with Minister and Premier. To no avail.”
Saturday’s rally begins at 10 a.m. at Talbot and Inkerman streets, east of the CASO station.
