Cards, camaraderie, and community spirit will come together next month as the Ed Yurek Memorial Charity Euchre Tournament returns to the St. Thomas Seniors’ Recreation Centre.
Hosted by Yurek Pharmacy, the event will be held Friday, November 7 at 7 p.m., with all proceeds supporting Valora Place, formerly Violence Against Women Services Elgin County.
Liz Brown, Executive Director of Valora Place, says support from the tournament will help ensure women and children across St. Thomas and Elgin County can access transportation, counseling, and safe housing when they need it most.
Yurek Pharmacy co-owner Peter Yurek says the event continues a family tradition. “My dad, Ed, loved euchre and supporting local causes,” he said. “We are proudly continuing the tradition.”
The evening will feature a 50/50 draw, raffle prizes, and awards for the highest score, most lone hands, and lowest score. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at Yurek Pharmacy (519 Talbot Street) or the St. Thomas Seniors’ Recreation Centre (225 Chestnut Street).
Last year’s tournament winner, St. Thomas resident Lois Tillotson, is expected to return to defend her title.
