Just after 9:30 Friday morning (Oct. 31), the St. Thomas Police Service surpassed 20,000 calls for service this year, the earliest date ever to reach this mark.
Last year, the milestone was reached on Nov. 3.
Based on current trends, 2025 is projected to set a new record for total incidents and events that require a police response by year-end.
According to a media release from the police service, the increased workload continues to place added pressure across all areas of the organization. And, many of the incidents require extensive investigation, follow-up, and administrative processing, impacting every area of the police service.
Chief Marc Roskamp noted, “The continued increase in the requirement for police services is a reflection of both the growth of our community and the complexities of the wide ranging public safety issues that our members are managing daily.
“We remain focused on ensuring that we deliver responsive services that balances compassion with accountability. We continue to apply the right person-right care approaches, ensuring the most appropriate human services agency is actioned to support those in need.”
The release concluded, “Despite the growing demands, the St. Thomas Police Service remains committed to providing professional, timely, and compassionate services to our deserved community.”
