St. Thomas is set to kick off the holiday season with a little bit of sparkle, as Light Up Talbot takes over the downtown on November 14th.
The evening coincides with the city’s traditional tree lighting ceremony at City Hall, explains Sarah Lynch, Downtown Development and Engagement Officer with the St. Thomas Economic Development Corporation, blending a long-standing St. Thomas tradition with an expanded downtown celebration.
This year’s event promises something for everyone — from warming stations and family-friendly activities to horse-drawn wagon rides, pop-up vendors, and live entertainment.
The closure of Talbot Street will stretch from Horton to East Street, transforming the core into a walkable winter wonderland. Attendees are encouraged to dress warmly, enjoy the sights, and take their time exploring the shops participating in the annual Light Up Talbot window decorating contest.
Lynch says Light Up Talbot is about more than just holiday fun — it’s a celebration of community connection and local pride. The event highlights the importance of supporting downtown businesses, many of whom give back to the community year-round.
This year’s event is made possible thanks to support from Doug Tarry Homes, Entegrus, Mitchell’s Soup, Wendy’s, Graham Scott Enns & Associates, and many other local sponsors and partners. This includes those hosting the warming stations throughout the downtown.
Light Up Talbot runs from 5 to 9 p.m., featuring live music, late-night shopping, horse and carriage rides, and plenty of surprises along the way. Visitors can also participate in the downtown “Goose Chase” scavenger hunt, running from November 14th until the St. Thomas Optimist Santa Claus Parade the following weekend.
